How to Access Funding
Accessing funding to implement a school reform program can seem a daunting challenge. We understand the challenge and have made every attempt to simplify the process for you.
First, an independent evaluator assessed the "fit" of the QLD SMART Schools / SMART Goals improvement process within the federal Comprehensive School Reform (CSR) Program (the largest source of funding for reform efforts). Our evaluator's report shows that the SMART Schools / SMART Goals improvement process is exactly what the CSR Program is intended to fund. Participation in our training efforts, therefore, puts you in a strong position to access CSR funding.
Second, we have identified some very helpful sources of information that can make your search for funding much simpler.
- SchoolGrants.org is an extremely helpful website that provides educators with general sources, tips, advice, and examples for securing the funding necessary to achieve their goals. The website lists federal, state, and private sources of funding.
- eSchool News online offers timely information on grant sources (free registration required for most content areas).
- Your State Education Agency administers CSR grants in your state. This agency can provide you with information on accessing CSR and other state funds.
- The US Department of Education administers a number of programs whose funding can be leveraged for school improvement. You can find information about all open federal discretionary grant competitions by visiting http://www.ed.gov/GrantApps/. This page includes links to online RFPs (when available), links to Federal Register notices, a brief description about the program, and contact information. See below for information on one such program.

Third, we have assembled some tips on securing grant funds for participating in the SMART Schools / SMART Goals certification training.
- Look for existing professional development funds currently available to you and determine if there is a way to use them for your certification in the SMART Schools / SMART Goals improvement process.
- Speak with your district's Grant Coordinator to determine if any grant funding your school or district is currently receiving can be used to fund your education.
- When applying for funding, emphasize that the SMART Schools / SMART Goals improvement process has been proven to be effective and meets the requirements of the national Comprehensive School Reform Program.
- Contact QLD if we can be of any assistance in helping you secure funding!
