Kiett Takkunen has more than thirty years of teaching, training, and consulting experience with the Madison Metropolitan School District in Madison, Wisconsin. She was a classroom teacher for fifteen years, a Talented and Gifted Resource Teacher for three, before becoming a district GT Specialist for seven years. Her final six years were spent as a Language Arts District Specialist and teacher-trainer. The latter provided training in the Six Trait Writing Model which she loves teaching throughout Wisconsin and for the Sally Ride Academy in the Milwaukee area school districts. Kiett retired three years ago but has never been busier with consulting, facilitating of scoring district writing assessments, and as an adjunct faculty member with Cardinal Stritch University.

She received her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she taught Reading Methods and supervised student teachers. She has presented at several International Reading Conferences. One of her proudest moments was receiving the "Outstanding Gifted/Talented Coordinator of the Year" award from the Wisconsin Association for the Talented & Gifted in 1997. Part of that honor was due to her creation and direction of Camp Brainbusters, a two-week summer enrichment experience for hundreds of G/T children over thirteen summers. Her husband, Paul, a retired elementary teacher of thirty-five years, shared in this experience and they mentor, counsel, and consider their "Camp BB Kids" as part of their extended family.

Kiett and Paul, along with their yellow lab, Ginger, fulfilled a retirement dream by moving to their vacation home at Dutch Hollow Lake, in the beautiful Wisconsin bluffs and valleys, in March of 2005. They are grateful for their peaceful surroundings and breathtaking scenery each and every day.
